On April 25 the US President Barack Obama announced about a delivery of additional troops -- 250 soldiers -- to Syria, The Wall Street Journal reports making a reference to the White House. The American president , as the newspaper notes , has recently approved a decision about deployment of new forces in Syria . It is planned that the US will send soldiers of the Special Unit, doctors , scouts, and experts in logistic support.
As a result, the total number of troops will increase from 50 to 300. The purpose of the troops is to involve not only the Kurds in the fight against the terrorist group Islamic state ( IG ), but also local Sunni Arabs . The ultimate objective of the United States is to capture the main stronghold of the Islamists , the city of Raqqah, reports Lenta. On April 24 during his visit to Germany Obama stated that sending ground troops would not help to resolve the situation in Syria .
