YEREVAN. - The European institutions must demand Azerbaijan to agree to install mechanisms of permanent monitoring at the Line of Contact, European Parliament deputy Frank Engel said at a press-conference in Yerevan Monday.

In his words, specific measures have been carried out from the standpoint that the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs proposed to implement permanent monitoring of incidents on the Line of Contact in the Karabakh conflict zone. “We know that Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh support this proposal, but Azerbaijan is against it. The European institutions must exert every effort to demand Azerbaiajn to agree to install this mechanism. If Azerbaijan continues to oppose this, we will call into question the entire scope of our relations with that country, regardless as to whether in the framework of Eastern Partnership, Euronest or other negotiation formats,” Engel stressed.
