YEREVAN. – A lifelong dream of Turkish president Recpe Tayyip Erdogan is to justify his nickname – “a sultan”,  Russian political analyst  Viktor Nadein-Rayevsky said.

Erdogan’s dream is to get president’s authority and to return to the presidential system of government, political analyst told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Earlier  on Thursday Turkish PM Ahmet Davutoglu announced his decision not to stand in the vote for the leadership of Justice and Development party. Therefore, Davutoglu would lose his seat.

The Turkish leader has never been hiding his dream to have a presidential republic.

“But he failed to do so. Why? President’s authority is restricted by the current Constitution. Prime Minister has a priority over the president. The foreign policy is under the authority of the prime minister,” said Nadein-Rayevsky, a senior fellow of the Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute of World Economy and International Relations.

Erdogan needs majority to change the Constitution, and the only option to transform the system is to hold a nation-wide voting, Nadein-Rayevsky added.

However, the analyst said the opposition will categorically oppose any changes.
