Editor of Turkish Cumhuriyet newspaper Can Dündar was attacked while making a statement outside a courthouse in Istanbul Friday.

According to the newspaper, Can Dündar and Ankara journalist Erdem Gül attended their own trial on charges of revealing state secrets.

During the break, Mr Dündar was making a statement for journalists, when a man reportedly shouted “traitor” and fired at least three shots at the editor. Fortunately, he wasn’t hurt but an NTV television reporter got injured as a result. The armed man has been arrested.

Can Dündar and Erdem Gül stand trial upon Erdogan’s order, since they dared to reveal and prove that Turkey’s state intelligence agency ferries weapons to Syrian terrorists.
