YEREVAN. - The non-existent grape harvest is drawn upon the order of brandy mafia in Armenia, MP of the Armenian National congress (ANC) Hrant Bagratyan said in the parliament Wednesday, speaking to the Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan..

In 2015, the Agriculture Ministry wrote about 309,000 tons of grape, but it’s impossible to understand what happened to it, Bagratyan noted. It has not been possible to check whether the wine and brandy factories procure as much grape as declared, he added.

In the MP’s words, many factories receive two tons but write 10-20 tons instead. The remaining quasi-grape is concealed for the spirit, which is actually counterfeit.

“Two years ago I proposed to keep account of the remainders of wine and brandy production so that it is evident whether they tell the truth. You killed this bill. What would you say now? Theirs is mafia in this business, and a serious one,” Bagratyan said.
