At least 12 people were killed and several dozen were injured as a result of tropical storm which struck last night in the state of Uttar Pradesh in northern India, TASS reported.

The hurricane accompanied by heavy rain and storm,  passed across all territory of the state,  ripping off roofs of houses, pulling out trees, tearing off power lines and flooding low-lying areas. In the east of the state two people were killed. In the central part lightning killed four people in separate incidents. Messages on the tragic incidents connected with a collapse of old buildings, such as the death of two students in the village, where heavy school gate dropped, arrived from  different districts.

According to estimates of law enforcement bodies, the death toll can be much higher. National Directorate of Meteorology warned that the rains will continue in Uttar Pradesh for at least 48 hours.
