Since February tens of millions of pounds  charged as income tax and VAT have not been transferred to the UK tax and customs service (HMRV), writes the Telegraph.

According to the results of the investigation conducted by the newspaper , the reason for the neglect is the update of the bank details of the tax and customs services. Many firms that made their payments as required, after the updates had been done, received notices of late payments. They probably did not pay attention to them, since they thought that they received hoax alerts.

“The change certainly seemed to have been poorly managed as businesses have not had sufficient warning,” said Tina Riches, a partner at Smith and Williamson, quotes the newspaper. According to her the case is just a peak of the iceberg, and the issue can leave a huge gap in  the British Treasury, reports RIA Novosti.
