Walk Free Foundation human rights and charitable organization, which fights against slavery, issued the 2016 Global Slavery Index.

The index estimates that 45.8 million people are subject to some form of modern slavery in the world today.  

The index presents a ranking of 167 countries based on the proportion of the population that is estimated to be in modern slavery.

The countries with the highest estimated prevalence of modern slavery by the proportion of their population are North Korea, Uzbekistan, Cambodia, India, and Qatar.

Armenia is in119th place, whereas Azerbaijan is ranked 80th in the 2016 Global Slavery Index. 

The number of slaves in the world has increased by 10 million, as compared to 2014.

As per the index, 58 percent of those living in slavery are in five countries: India, China, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Uzbekistan.
