Every fourth European aged 15 to 64 has at least once tried banned drugs, the annual report on European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) published Tuesday reads, RIA Novosti reports.   

According to the report, over 88 million adults, or more than one quarter of the persons aged 15 to 64 in the European Union, tried banned drugs some time in their lives.

The Center noted that the most popular drug in Europe is marijuana: it was tried by over 82 million people. In France, 40 percent of the adult population tried marihuana at least once in lifetime. In other countries, the index is significantly low, being 30 percent in Denmark and Italy, and less then 10 percent in Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Malta.

Pursuant to the research, the illicit drugs are more frequently used by men (62 percent).
