GYUMRI. – Thousands of pilgrims are assembled at Gyumri’s Vardanants Square where Pope Francis, who is in Armenia on a three day visit, will soon arrive.

These pilgrims have come to Gyumri from numerous countries, and in the hopes of seeing the Holy Father, shaking his hand, and receiving his blessing (PHOTOS).

Final preparations are being made on the altar where the Pope will offer the Holy Mass.

After the mass, the Pontiff will tour around the people with his white popemobile. Subsequently, the Bishop of Rome will head for the Our Lady of Armenia Boghossian Educational Center of the Armenian Catholic Church. Afterward, the Bishop of Rome will visit the Armenian Apostolic Cathedral of the Seven Wounds, then the newly built Holy Martyrs Armenian Catholic Cathedral.

The Gyumri residents have also prepared gifts for Pope Francis, and one of them is the mushurba gurgle cup, which is considered a symbol of the city.
