YEREVAN. - The issue of Nagorno-Karabakh’s status as part of  Azerbaijan isn’t and cannot be discussed during the talks,  Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian stated Wednesday at a joint press-conference with the OSCE Chairman and German FM Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Responding to the question on the prospects for the implementation of the agreements of the two summits, the Armenian FM noted that after each meeting the Co-Chairs ask whether it will be possible to respect the reached agreements. “I always tell them: Let’s wait and see how the Azerbaijani delegation will present the results of the meeting upon returning to Baku. We will make conclusions afterwards. Today Azerbaijan is unfortunately trying to manipulate and create an impression among the pubic that the agreements are beneficial to them. I don’t think this will be useful in terms of the negotiation process,” the FM said.

“As an example they mention Nakhijevan, a region once settled by Armenians, where no Armenians have been left, and where the monuments of their cultural heritage have been destroyed. This is indeed an example why such a position will not be a subject of negotiations. The status of Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan has not been and will not be discussed.  The Co-Chairs and the heads of co-chairing countries have repeatedly stated that the status must be decided by the NKR people and by way of the free expression of their will,” Nalbandian stressed.
