YEREVAN. - Armenia attaches importance to the Bundestag’s decision, Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian stated Wednesday at a joint press-conference with the OSCE Chairman and German FM Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

“By this step Germany has not only contributed to the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide, but also to the fight against the recurrence of such a crime against humanity,” the FM said, adding that Germany has thereby also recognized part of its accountability.

On June 2, the Bundestag, the lower house of the German parliament, formally recognized the Armenian Genocide, with the aforesaid resolution and with only one vote against and one abstention. The resolution also notes that the Bundestag regrets that the German government at the time did nothing to stop this crime against humanity, and therefore the Bundestag also acknowledges the respective historical accountability of Germany.
