The Turkish authorities must comply with the principles of democracy during investigation of the uprising, announced the President of Germany Joachim Gauck.

On July 15 the Turkish officials announced about a military coup attempt in the country. The militaries in their turn said that they took the power into their hands. Next morning, rebellions began to surrender. The Turkish authorities announced that the coup attempt failed, reports RIA Novosti .

"The Turkish government should uphold principles of democracy and law while analyzing the events. Anything else will disrupt the Turkish democracy. Now it is important for Turkey as a country that considers itself as a democracy and wants to become an EU member, not send to prison journalists that have censorious views, not to fire thousands of judges for a short-time , and not to discuss a possibility of restoring the death penalty " said Gauck in an interview with the Bild.

According to the German President, there are big issues in Turkey . "Even now , when we are living during restless times of threats , Turkey must respect general rules , since Turkey is a member of NATO and is negotiating for the EU membership . As I have already said, for us , Europeans , democracy and legal foundations of the state are issues beyond any discussion . The authoritarian style of any government has no place here , " said Gauck.
