YEREVAN. – The United States have to fulfill their role in the settlement of Karabakh conflict, U.S. Congressman Jim Costa said at the American University of America in Yerevan.

“Regardless whether it is possible to reach an agreement, Armenia needs a peace partner to maintain peaceful relations with,” Costa said.

Washington, in his view, has to do more in terms of institutional development in Armenia. Costa believes that Secretary of State John Kerry really wanted to resolve the situation in Artsakh.

The House representative said that before reaching an agreement assurance is needed that Azerbaijan will observe the agreement. “For me and for many of you, perhaps, the question is, whether we can trust  Azerbaijan and Russia in terms of compliance with the agreement,” he added.

When asked by a student if he would like to visit the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, the Congressman said, “Yes, I would like to go there. And not only to admire the beauty of the Nagorno-Karabakh, but also to be more constructive.”
