YEREVAN. – The first and incumbent presidents of Armenia shared the view that the capture of police regiment can create problems on the foreign policy field, political strategist Vigen Hakobyan stated at a press conference on Monday.

According to him, this is not a surprise at all. Political scientist agreed with the assessment of the opposition Armenian National Assembly MP Nikol Pashinyan that Serzh Sargsyan and Levon Ter-Petrosian created alliance in connection with the gradual settlement of the Karabakh conflict. At the moment, from the point of view of Vigen Hakobyan, the main problem is a deadlock on Karabakh.

A group of an armed men stormed into a Yerevan police patrol regiment, on early morning on July 17, and took several police officers hostage. Deputy regiment commander Artur Vanoyan was killed, and four other officers plus one of the attackers were wounded during the gunfire exchange.

The gunmen demand the release of Jirair Sefilian, an imprisoned opposition activist. On July 23 the hostages were released.
