YEREVAN. – The Armenian Police requires the supports of the armed groups that had seized the Police Patrol Regiment from Khorenatsi street to move another place.
The statement of the police writes: “During the rally on July 20 a group of people, apparently aggressive, armed with stones and other objects , attacked the police who were on duties, trying to take their arming , as a result of which 50 people injured.
In order to suppress the riots, including threats to human lives and health, the police were forced to apply to special measures. In addition, as part of the criminal case on the attack, the police received information that the armed group was led by people from outside , who were carrying out criminal acts aimed at creating panic and collisions.
Thus, one of the arrested on July 21 tried to smuggle a grenade to Khorenatsi street , but his criminal actions were timely prevented. Based on the above, the Police of Armenia states that there is an immediate threat of a sharp aggravation of the situation, which would lead to unpredictable consequences in a closed section of Khorenatsi street.
Therefore, in order to prevent a threat to lives and health of the participants of the meeting, as well as public safety, nothing else can be done other than to move the meeting to another place. Otherwise, the police will have to use other means , in accordance with the law, to stop the rally,” police said in a statement.
