YEREVAN. - NATO’s Warsaw Summit confirmed the Alliance’s “open door” policy in terms of the South Caucasus region, which is a fundamental premise of the Warsaw agreement.

Polish Ambassador to Armenia Jerzy Nowakowski stated the aforementioned Wednesday during the discussion on the topic “Post-Warsaw NATO Summit: Implications for Armenia” .

The Ambassador noted that the West saw a system crisis last year.  “On the other hand, during the last 20 years, the NATO bloc has maintained its political role and position in the world. In Warsaw we announced that the history still continues and that it is the backbone of the world politics. The Warsaw Summit came to reconfirm that the western world is based on the totality of values,” Nowakowski noted.

According to him, NATO’s Warsaw Summit has expressed interest in regard to the southern neighbors, also showing that the bloc is ready to counteract instability in the region, especially in the south.

“In Warsaw we underscored the importance of NATO’s activity. The doors of NATO continue to remain open for all those countries, which share our values and are ready to take part in the activities aimed at ensuring the Alliance’s security.  The Warsaw Summit confirmed that we have no illusions about Russia,” Jerzy Nowakowski noted.

In his words, the strengthening of the eastern wing is in no way aimed against Russia. “But we must be realistic, taking into consideration Russia’s policy in the recent years. Now we have understood that Russia has become a tough and instable partner,” the Polish Ambassador said.

The 27th high-level meeting of the presidents and prime ministers of NATO took place in Warsaw on July 8-9.
