The wall was built in the third century BC to protect the empire , but now it is falling apart . The locals steal bricks to build houses or even sell souvenirs to tourists , thereby increasing the damage made by wind , rain, and sand storms. According to the statistical data , 30 per cent of the wall has vanished. Less than 10 percent is preserved in a good condition.
