There was discovered an abandoned US military base in Greenland, reports the Daily Star.

The facilities of the base have become available for the observers, when the  iceberg melted. According to the media outlets, during the Cold War it was assumed that the base will become one of the focal points of the Ice Worm project which envisaged to have more than 600 nuclear missiles unavailable for a potential adversary. However , the base was abandoned in 1966, as a result of then melting of the iceberg.  
 
The newspaper specifies that the Danish government was already aware of the construction of the base, but was unaware of its specific purpose. In case the project had been successfully completed, the length of the shelters’ corridors would make 4.5 thousand km, and the building would include a shop, a hospital, a church, and a theater , reports the Moskovsky Komsomolets .
