The court in Osnabrueck city of Lower Saxony has banned a Muslim schoolgirl from attending classes in niqab, RIA Novosti reports, citing Independent.

The 18-year-old student of Sophie Scholl sued the Evening Gymnasium in Osnabrueck, after the Gymnasium administration forbade her from attending classes in face veil concealing her entire face but for the eyes, the newspaper writes.

According to the school representatives, the girl's appearance hindered her open communication with teachers, since the communication relied "not only on the spoken word, but also on non-verbal elements and body language."

The administrative court of the city rejected the appeal of the schoolgirl, who did not appear in person following huge media attention.

This is one of the first rulings to ban wearing niqab in German schools, the newspaper writes.
