The forces of Russia and Armenia are directed against a common enemy, the Serbia Today newspaper wrote in an article on the creation of a united team of the armed forces of these two countries.
The Pravda newspaper of Serbia, for its part, wrote as follows:
“The creation of the Armenian-Russian army has a broader, regional importance.
“Azerbaijan is the ally of Turkey, which uses one of the terminals of the former Soviet military airport, not far from [Azerbaijan’s capital city of] Baku.
“Russia has military bases in South Ossetia and Abkhazia, also in Armenia.
“With the creation of joint forces, the partnership and allied relations of Russia and Armenia will enter a new level.
“Armenia, which is in the hostile environment of Turkey and Azerbaijan (which many in Armenia call second Turkey), is seeking a strategic support by way of further rapprochement with Russia and Iran.”
