The friends and relatives of Karo Yeghnukyan, who was arrested for aiding Armenia's Founding Parliament radical opposition group, are staging a protest in his support outside the Prosecutor General's Office in Yerevan.

''We demand to set free Karo Yeghnukyan and the other political prisoners. Of course we have no hope that this institution will make a lawful decision. We express our support for Karo Yeghnukyan and others. We should thereby increase the pressure on that institution so that they fulfill the requirements of the law,'' activist Davit Sanasaryan told Armenian News – NEWS.am.

The protestors have brought with them posters with Yeghnukyan's photo and flags of Armenia. They are scanning ''Freedom to Karo Yeghnukyan'' and ''Freedom to political prisoners''. Head of the Union for National Self-Determination Party Paruyr Hayrikyan and activist Alec Yenikomshian are also by the Prosecutor General's Office.

Yeghnukyan faces charges under Articles 38-218 and 38-219 (hostage-taking, occupation of buildings, facilities, means of transportation or communication) of the Armenian Criminal Code.

He was arrested on July 19. The National Security Service (NSS) searched his flat and the one belonging to his wife's mother, as well as the two cars in the garage.  Following this, Yeghnukyan was detained and arrested.
