YEREVAN. – The National Statistical Service of Armenia recently publicized the Poverty and Food Security: January-June 2016 report.

Judging from the information contained therein, the average per capita cash income of the country’s population increased by 5.7 percent in the year past.

Some facts, however, lead to quite the opposite conclusion.

Apparent signs of regression in Armenia’s economy emerged last year. For example, retail trade turnover fell by almost 8 percent, at current prices. In addition, individuals’ remittances received from abroad dropped considerably. The per capita remittances fell by more than 1.4 times last year, as compared to the previous year.

Also, the overall per capita income of Armenia’s residents fell by 4 percent in 2015.
