YEREVAN. - Large number of citizens has gathered outside the Criminal Court of Appeals in Yerevan, where the hearing on extending the arrest of the Founding Parliament radical opposition group leader Jirair Sefilian is held.
The people gathered have come with the posters depicting Sefilian and are scanning “Freedom to Jiro,”Armenian News -NEWS.am correspondent reports. The bailiffs have closed the court door, and the citizens are thus protesting in the hall.
It is unknown whether Sefilian is inside the court or not.
In May, a criminal case was launched, in the framework of which Jirair Sefilian and 8 other persons were charged with illegal arms trafficking and possession. In early August, Sefilian’s case was joined with the Sasna Tsrer case. Now he faces charges under Articles 35-222 and 38-235 of the Armenian Criminal Code.
