The opening and consecration ceremony of the cross stone dedicated to the Armenian Genocide victims took place in Vinnytsia city of Ukraine on Friday, Analitikaua reports.

The cross stone, installed by the Church of the Resurrection of the Lord, was consecrated by the head of the Ukrainian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic church, bishop Markos Hovhannisyan.  

According to the Executive Director of the Union of Armenians of Ukraine (UAU) David Mkrtchyan, the opening ceremony was attended by the representatives of the city administration, Orthodox church, UAU, Armenian community of Vinnytsia and other regions of the country, as well as ethnic minorities of the region and ordinary citizens.

In his speech, the head of the regional Vinnytsia Armenian community organization, Samvel Yegoyan, told about the cross stone and its symbolism.

As reported earlier, in the framework of the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the UAU President Vilen Shatvoryan has initiated installment of cross stones in memory of the Armenian Genocide victims.

Similar cross stones have already been installed in Mykolaiv, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Uzhhorod, Berezan, Khmelnytskyi , Chernihiv, Slavutych and Rayki cities of Ukraine.  A memorial to the Armenian Genocide victims has been opened in Kharkiv. A number of country’s regions have adopted resolutions on the Armenian Genocide.
