Angolan citizen Bob João Dongala, who had illegally crossed the Turkey-Armenia border, has been sentenced to one year in prison.

Armavir District Court of First Instance of Armenia reached the aforesaid verdict.

At the court hearing, Dongala plead guilty, and asked the court for a speedy trial.

During the trial it became clear that he was a refugee in France, he had previously lived in Paris, then he had come to Turkey, and, subsequently, he had crossed the border and entered Armenia.

But it is not clear why he had come to Armenia.

According to the indictment, on June 14 at around 9pm, Bob João Dongala illegally crossed into the Armenian state border on foot, nearby Yervandashat village in Armavir Province, from Turkey. On June 15 at 1:30am, however, he was apprehended by the Russian Federation Federal Security Service border officers stationed in Armenia.

 

Criminal charges were brought against Dongala.

He was placed under arrest.

During initial questioning, the border trespasser had explained that he is a citizen of Angola, born in 1982, and he wanted to reach Angola via Armenia.
