EU must cancel the visas for Turkish citizens and stop insisting on the changes of the anti-terrorist legislation, otherwise Ankara will withdraw from its obligations on the readmission agreement.

Turkish Minister of European Union Affairs, Ömer Çelik, said the aforementioned in an interview with Reuters.

In his words, considering the situation, the pressure on Ankara means hindering the liberalization of the visa regime, in connection with which we suppose that they (EU) will not keep their promise.”

“In this case we can suspend the readmission agreement and terminate it if necessary,” Çelik said.

He also noted that Turkey has not yet named the deadline for this, but if visas are not cancelled by the end of the year, this will mean that the deal on that issue ‘died a natural death.’

“There will be nothing left to discuss,” he noted.
