YEREVAN. – The European Union (EU) has a very strict methodology for inspecting how EU funding to Armenia is spent, and what are the results.

Ambassador Piotr Świtalski, Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, noted the above-said at a press conference on Monday.

When asked how much the EU allocates to Armenia each year, and whether it has any levers for checking up on the effectiveness of the subsequent expenditures, Świtalski responded that it would be correct to assess what they have done so far, and to make cooperation more effective by using new approaches. He added that the allocated funding is based on critical analyses.

The diplomat added that the EU annually provides about €50 million to Armenia, whose bulk is budgetary funding. Świtalski stated that some of this funding is grants for NGOs, and some programs are run from Brussels.

Ambassador Świtalski also stressed that they are ready to listen to any proposal toward making the use of this funding become more beneficial.
