Three French Defence Ministry officials and two private contractors became the victims of the light lane crush at Malta airport, French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian stated. 

The light plane crashed after takeoff from Malta International Airport en route to Libya, killing all five crew members on board on Monday morning, Reuters reported.

According to eyewitnesses, the crash occurred 10 meters from one of local military units, the building of which was damaged by debris. Nobody was injured on the ground.

Earlier it was reported that EU officials (Frontex) were onboard the crashed plane.

According to some data, the aircraft flew for reconnaissance - tracking the routes of carriers of illegal migrants and drug dealers.
