YEREVAN. - Armenia wants to sign double taxation treaties with a number of new countries.

Deputy Minister of Finance Armen Hayrapetyan stated the aforementioned in the parliament Monday, introducing for ratification the double taxation agreements between Armenia and Serbia, as well as Slovakia.

Armenia has such treaties with almost all EU states. Among exceptions are Portugal and Sweden. The country plans to sign such treaties with Sweden, Canada, neighboring Georgia and Iran, as well as China and India, Lebanon and United Arab Emirates (UAE). Armenia has no double taxation treaty with U.S., although it has turned to Washington for several times with the proposal to launch relevant talks.

In case such agreements are signed, Armenia-based businesses can receive income in another country and pay taxes there without having to pay for the second time in the homeland (the same is true for the companies of partner country in Armenia).
