YEREVAN. - It is necessary that the potatoes purchased for delivery to military units of Armenia be established at a price of at least 55-60 AMD.

Opposition MP Nikol Pashinyan said the aforementioned at the National Assembly (NA) Wednesday.

In his words, the Defense Ministry of Armenia purchases potatoes from farmers at the price of 40-45 AMD. These are farmers from Vardenis region of Armenia’s Gegharkunik province, he added.

“Purchased potato is delivered to military units at a price of about 84-100 AMD. We held certain discussions and the price of purchase from villagers amounted to 50 AMD.  But this price doesn’t fit the prime cost of potato either,” Pashinyan stressed.

According to the MP, it is necessary that the purchase price be established at 55-60 AMD. I think this can be done with certain interference,” Pashinyan added.

Responding to the MP’s question, Defense Minister Vigen Sargsyan noted that the issue has been set very precisely, since the supplier must carry out quite large amount of work when purchasing potato.

According to him, the price fluctuation of potato procurement depends on the location of a military unit. “Procurement for the army is among the priorities of the Defense Ministry of Armenia, but we indeed have very serious issues here. At the moment, the procurement of delayed products is underway. And the task on that the suppliers should fulfill their obligations on time is very strictly set,” the Minister added.
