YEREVAN. – Even though the existing problems in the negotiations on a new European Union (EU)-Armenia agreement are qualified as technical, they are not as technical.

Founder and Director of the Armenian Institute of International and Security Affairs, political analyst Styopa Safaryan, stated the abovementioned at a press conference on Friday.

In his words, Armenia and the EU are trying to redefine their relationship, for the past nearly 3.5 years. In addition, as per Safaryan, very comprehensive talks were conducted on the EU Association Agreement, for another 3.5 years before that.

“Had the problems been truly technical, the scope of our obligations would have been clear until then,” he added. “If it’s impossible in that much time to bring on paper—with ‘copy-paste’—everything that was negotiated for 3.5 years, it should become comprehensible that the obstacles are not technical, but political.”
