In contrast to experts in information technologies, who say Armenia is not taking steps to promote IT development, Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan stated at the RA Government’s Dec. 30 sitting that the Armenian IT sector has made substantial progress this year. Specifically, the 3G network has been available throughout the country, and the 4G network has been launched this year. “In this respect Armenia is the CIS leader and is among the ten world leaders,” the Premier said.

One more major achievement is Internet prices. The price for high-speed Internet traffic fell from 15,000 AMD down to 8,000 (AMD U.S. $1/AMD 362.84) per 1 Mb. The number of Internet users has doubled to reach 173,000 in Armenia this year. With mobile users, it is 1.5 million people. So every second Armenian citizen has Internet access. Wholesale Internet prices have fallen two times as well.

Premier Sargsyan believes all the aforementioned factors created favorable conditions for IT development next year. The IT is among the RA Government’s priorities, the Premier said.
