Today is 87th anniversary of famous Armenian director and screenwriter Sergei Parajanov.

Sergei Parajanov was born on January 9, 1924 in Tbilisi. His first film was Andriesh which was followed by several movies and documentaries – Dumka, Natalya Ushvi, Golden Hands.

He is widely known for his masterpieces Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors and The Color of Pomegranates – a biography of the Armenian poet Sayat Nova.

He died in 1990 in Yerevan of lung cancer and is buried at Pantheon cemetery.

In 2011 film about Sergei Parajanov with Serge Avedikian will be shot in Armenia, Georgia, Ukraine and the Netherlands.
