RA Ambassador to Switzerland Charles Aznavour believes that Israel will recognize the Armenian Genocide sooner or later, despite its strategic partnership with Turkey.
Jews themselves have already recognized this tragedy, he said in an interview with Canadian Jewish News. Jews, as a nation that experienced Holocaust, realize what happened with Armenians early in the 20th century, says Aznavour. If the world stood for Armenians in 1915, Hitler would not have dared to exterminate Jews, cynically saying “Who remembers the Armenian Genocide today?”

Charles Aznavour believes that the U.S. Congress should have recognized the Armenian Genocide long ago. The Ambassador is a bit angry with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as she tried to talk the Congressmen out of adopting the resolution for fear of Anakar’s response. As to prospects, Aznavour hopes that the adoption of the Genocide resolution by the House of Representatives will prove to be like snowball effect.

As to the admission of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey, the Ambassador stated that Turkish young people have a right to get rid of the burde of crimes committed by the Young Turks.

Charles Aznavour believes the Turkish Government’s conduct is too selfish. He does not understand their fear of admitting the Genocide recognition. Aznavour thinks they were not perpetrators of that crime. Today Turkey is ruled by militaries and they do not wish to recognize the Armenian Genocide. The present generation of Turks is not directly responsible for the Genocide — they have to hear the truth and distance themselves from the crimes they never committed.

Commenting on the Armenia-Turkey reconciliation process, Charles Aznavour stressed that Turks signed the Protocols, but then reversed. It is not a new thing for them. He expressed hope that the Armenia-Turkey reconciliation will not resemble a tango: one step forward, two steps backwards.
