TBILISI. – “Georgia will never be able to resolve Nagorno-Karabakh issue behind Armenia and Azerbaijan. Neither Russia, nor Unites States nor Western Europe will be able to do so. The governments and peoples of the two states must resolve the conflict. Georgia will not interfere in the Karabakh conflict and will not offer recipes. I am saying this on behalf of Georgian leadership and people, as they do not want to take anyone’s side. Armenia and Azerbaijan must respect Georgia’s position,” Georgia’s former Ambassador to Armenia Revaz Gachechiladze stated in an interview with Samskhretis Karibje newspaper.

Commenting on the diplomatic relations between Georgia and Armenia, the former Ambassador stressed:

“The diplomatic relations between Georgia and Armenia are at a high level. If the public opinion strains in the Georgian or Armenian side, it accounts for other influences.”

Asked on the opening the Armenian Embassy in Javakhk, Gachechiladze said: “I think it is unnecessary. Armenia and Georgia maintain visa-free relations. In my opinion, to raise this issue is incorrect as Javakheti is in the territory of Georgia. Residents of Javakheti are citizens of Georgia. If they feel foreigners, they can renounce Georgian citizenship and raise the issue of opening the Armenian Embassy in Javakheti.”
