Five-day war which broke out in Georgia in 2008 was a lesson to Armenia and Azerbaijan, the countries engaged in confrontation for Nagorno-Karabakh, said Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in an interview with Russia Today TV channel, Georgian First Caucasian Information TV channel and Ekho Moskvy radio station.

“You know, both President Aliyev and President Sargsyan came to Sochi shortly after the conflict in Georgia broke out. Do you know what they told me? They said it was a very bad thing, bad for the Caucasus. But then each of them added that it was also a lesson. They said they realized it was better to conduct seemingly endless negotiations on what will happen to Nagorno-Karabakh, whether the region will ever have a referendum and what the peace treaty would look like than go through five days of war,” Medvedev said.
