MOSCOW.- Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin met on Wednesday with newly appointed EU Special Representative for South Caucasus Philippe Lefort, Russian foreign office reported.  

The sides exchanged views on problems in the South Caucasus, including the Karabakh peace process. They also touched upon the issues related to the Geneva discussions on Georgia which are co-chaired by the EU. 

In early September Philippe Lefort visited Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan.

Lefort, a French diplomat with over 20 years of experience, was appointed on August 26. He devoted much of his career to the Caucasus and Russia, served as French ambassador to Georgia (2004-2007), he was also the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of France in Russia.
