PARIS. – Armenian delegation headed by Yerevan Mayor Karen Karapetyan was present at a memorial opening in French city of Nice. The author of the memorial is Ruben Sevak and it is dedicated to the 1915 Armenian Genocide.

Karapetyan was on official visit to France on September 23-25 with the invitation of Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi, city hall press service informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“Armenian-French relations have a special meaning for Armenia. There is no Armenian who does not respect and praise the fact that France and French people were the first to legally admit and condemn in 2001 the Armenian Genocide, which occurred in 1915,” the Mayor said during the opening of the memorial.

Karapetyan was also present at the solemn reception dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Armenia’s independence and organized by the Nice city hall. Yerevan Mayor stressed the importance of strengthening Armenian-French relations. Relations between both states are on high level, and the cooperation in all spheres, including city level is very important, the Mayor stated.
