YEREVAN. – Armenian soldier Mher Hakobyan, who died on December 18, was commissioned for training for the Boxing Federation of Armenia, between December 11 and January 30, to take part in a championship, the Federation’s Vice President Derenik Gabrielyan told Armenian News-NEWS-am, adding that the championship was to take place on January 23.       

Derenik Gabrielyan also noted that Mher Hakobyan had no prior health problems.

As Armenian News-NEWS-am informed earlier, MOD spokesperson Davit Karapetyan had told that Mher Hakobyan was commissioned for training for Armenia’s Boxing Federation, from December 11 to January 30. “He was a boxer,” Karapetyan said adding that he was taken to hospital due to health problems, on December 14, but the doctors were unable to save his life. The details are being clarified, and an investigation is underway.

To note, Hakobyan had captured fifth place at European youth boxing championship, and he was Armenia’s youth boxing champion.
