YEREVAN. – The Central Bank (CB) of Armenia purchased US$ 39.25 million and sold $137 million in the 2011 financial market, CB’s December 2011 bulletin informs.
More than half of the dollar purchase was conducted in summer, specifically with $26.9 million in July. And the most “active” month for selling the dollar was April, with $32.6 million.
In comparison with 2010, CB also considerably reduced its intervention to the currency market. In 2010, CB had purchased $122.7 million and sold $192.7.
The dollar’s trading in the financial market aims to lessen the sharp short-term fluctuations in the exchange rate.
