PARIS. - French President Nicolas Sarkozy will soon meet the representatives of the Armenian community of France, Reuters informs from Elysee Palace.

To note, French President Sarkozy assigned the Government to elaborate new bill on genocides, taking into account the decision of the Constitutional Council on banning law criminalizing denial of genocides, including the Armenian Genocide of 1915.

The author of the Genocide bill Valerie Boyer expressed her disappointment on the decision of the Constitutional Council. According to her, the decision of the Constitutional Council creates a disparity in treatment.

“France has acknowledged two genocides - the Holocaust and the Armenian Genocide of 1915. The victims of the Holocaust are protected from denial, but the victims of the Armenian Genocide are not,” she announced.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, the Constitutional Council of France recognized the genocide law as unconstitutional, as it violates freedom of speech and expression.

To remind, the bill on criminalizing denial of genocides was accepted by the French parliament on December 22, 2011, than was turned into law on January 23, 2012, by the French Senate.
