Armenia’s Ministry of Territorial Administration has included the construction project of a small HPP in Jermuk in the agenda of the Government Seating on Thursday.

According to the project, 0.15 hectares of agricultural land must be used from the Arpa Spitakajur River’s inflow. As a result of the operation of two small HPPs, 5.5 million kilowatt / hours of electricity will be produced annually and 8-10 jobs will be available.

However, that project was perceived ambiguously by two ministries. Armenia’s Ministry of Nature Protection did not approve the project as there is no certificate on environmental constraints. The Ministry of Urban Development did not object fundamentally but pointed out that on the assignment of the Ministry of Economy the Swiss Company Tigerdev Swiss has developed a plan for the development of Jermuk as a sports and health center. The mentioned territory was included in the project of the Swiss experts as a recreation and fishing area.
