YEREVAN. – Zhoghovurd daily has learned that Defense Minister of the Republic of Armenia (RA), Seyran Ohanyan, is actively engaged in recruiting a team for the upcoming presidential elections, reported the daily.

“The minister is meeting with people from most various circles (…) to figure out what human resources should be included in his future team.

“Many participants in the meetings with Ohanyan have had the impression that the defense minister is personally against the constitutional amendments, since he does not want to have the status of ‘Queen of England’ in case of becoming President [of Armenia].

“He aims to take the helm of the country with today’s powers of the RA President,” wrote Zhoghovurd.

Chapters 1 through 7 of the new draft Constitution of Armenia were made public on July 15. Accordingly, the country will make a transition from a semi-presidential to a parliamentary system of governance.
