YEREVAN. – Zhamanak daily spoke with Armenian Finance Minister Davit Sargsyan. Below is an excerpt from the interview. 

“Armenia has applied to receive the second Millennium Challenge Corporation funding. Does this mean that the Armenian party has received guarantees for a positive response?

“No, there are formal criteria in which case an application can be made to the Millennium Challenge program. In the last two or three years, Armenia did not meet those criteria. But in line with the latest developments and indicators, our country already has the right to apply to the corporation, and we have applied.

“But as to whether this program will be [carried out in Armenia] depends on numerous circumstances, and these circumstances are outside Armenia.

“More than ten countries have applied at this point, but the budgetary restrictions, which the Millennium Challenge Corporation has, assume that solely one country can receive funding.”
