YEREVAN. – Zhamanak daily spoke with Peter Stano, spokesperson of Štefan Füle, European Union (EU) Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy. Below is an excerpt from the interview.  

“How should be the EU’s future assistance to Armenia?

“At the [European Union Eastern Partnership] Vilnius summit the parties reaffirmed their commitment to continue to develop and strengthen their cooperation. According to the joint Vilnius statement, future cooperation will be aimed at the improvement of [Armenia’s] democratic institutions, improvement of the judicial system, the promotion of human rights and the rule of law, the fight against corruption, the strengthening of civil society, the development of expanded trade and investment, and the continuity of the flexibility of cooperation and the advanced sectoral cooperation.   

“What should Armenia do to push the discourse forward and to have it succeed? 

“The EU awaits Armenia to clarify the bilateral cooperation domains that will be compatible with its foreign policy choice, so that we would be able to reflect the expanding of cooperation in those domains.”
