YEREVAN. – The ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) MPs, who had responded with enthusiasm to the twelve-point demands by the four non-ruling National Assembly (NA) factions (Armenian National Congress, Prosperous Armenia, ARF Dashnaktsutyun, and Heritage), are caught in an awkward situation, Zhoghovurd daily reported.

“Zhoghovurd has learned that the RPA members’ rhetoric has changed dramatically after the RPA Supreme Body session on Saturday, June 14.

“[NA Deputy Speaker] Eduard Sharmazanov, immediately after the session, and yesterday [Tuesday], Government Chief of Staff-Minister Davit Harutyunyan, announced that they will not fulfill any of the [parliamentary] four’s demands, if the non-ruling forces insist [on these demands] in the [same] form they have submitted.

“Zhoghovurd’s sources report that, at the RPA session, [President of Armenia and RPA Chairman] Serzh Sargsyan spoke negatively about the [parliamentary] four’s demands; he even reproved the RPA members for ‘counting their chickens before they hatch,’” Zhoghovurd wrote.
