YEREVAN. – The Armenia MFA sources have informed Haykakan Zhamanak daily that, during the recent aggravation of the situation in the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the US political circles had discussed whether the US Federal Government should recognize the independence of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), or Artsakh, the daily reported.   

“According to our sources, the US political elite have calculated that if [Azerbaijan President] Ilham Aliyev launches a large-scale attack on Karabakh, he can do that solely by having the ‘permission’ by RF [Russian Federation] President Vladimir Putin, and this war could mean a geopolitical conspiracy against the US, and an effective way to counter it may be the recognition of Karabakh’s independence, just as Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia during the attack by Georgia, Haykakan Zhamanak wrote.
