YEREVAN. – A talk between Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Ilham Aliyev, which was held under the leadership of US Secretary of State John Kerry, took place within the framework of the NATO summit that kicked off in Wales on Thursday, Zhamanak daily reported.

“The fact of the meeting is significant in the sense that, after a long period of interval, a Sargsyan-Aliyev meeting is happening at the US initiative, under the aegis of the US. And this is doubly significant in the sense that it is happening after the trilateral meeting [between the presidents of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia] in Sochi [, Russian Federation (RF)].

“At the same time, RF is not present at the NATO summit. And this can be regarded as an unprecedented phenomenon within the [framework of the] recent developments in the Karabakh [conflict] settlement [process]. Unprecedented in the sense that it is happening without Russia because there have been numerous Russian initiatives without the West. In this perspective, perhaps we are witnessing a unique balancing act in the Karabakh [conflict] settlement process,” Zhamanak wrote.
