YEREVAN. – In response to Zhamanak daily’s question on the signing of Armenia’s Eurasian Economic Union accession treaty on October 10, US Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern said: “Last year in September, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan made his decision: joining the Customs Union.   

‘“The US believes that each country must decide its own future. We believe that Armenia has achieved progress in its talks with Moscow on accession.    

‘“It’s our task that Armenia continues to look to the West. We offer partnership to Armenia. I think this is very important for Armenia.’  

“Has Armenia chosen the right path? In response to this question the ambassador noted: ‘Each country makes its own decision.’

“[But] he expressed the hope that Armenia will manifest the political will to continue cooperation with the West,” Zhamanak wrote.
